Darkness unto Light

Diwali or Deepawali is a major festival for hindus all over the world.

It is celebrated on a new moon night in the months of October & November.

The day is primarily a celebration to commemorate the return of Lord Rama from his fourteen years of exile. However there are various other stories associated with the festival.

The festival gets its name from the rows of Diya’s  (oil lamps) that were lit, translating to ” Lines of light”

Diwali is a festival of lights and symbolises the victory of light over dark.

During this time homes are lit and cleaned, the scent of incense sticks hang in the air, mingled with the sound of fire crackers, joy, togetherness and hope.

On a personal level, however, Diwali is a time to turn inward and light the lamps of knowledge and truth in our hearts and minds so we can dispel the forces of darkness and ignorance within us and allow our innate brilliance and goodness to shine forth. Spiritual wealth such as compassion, forgiveness and kindness is what is cultivated from the deity Goddess Laxmi.

Families go shopping for sweets and clothes, women adorn themselves in the most colourful traditional attire.

A cheerful time to dress up and greet your friends and families.
